Youth YouthBank Project vacancy

Youth YouthBank is seeking a Programme Officer to manage its first YouthBank Center in Surelere. This is a high-profile position that will report directly to both the International and Nigerian Board of Directors, manage a core media business, and supervise 8-10 youth trainees. YouthBank is a high-growth small business incubator for street youth in Lagos, Nigeria. Currently in its start-up phase, it is a nonprofit that will be run with business discipline and international monitoring and support; international board members hail from the US, UK, and Canada as well as the most esteemed circles of nonprofit and political leadership in Nigeria. YouthBank has developed an innovative business model that will teach entrepreneurship skills and social responsibility to Lagos youth, invest in their business ideas, and equip them to become business leaders. It has attracted the attention of officials at corporations, universities and international organizations, including supporters at the World Bank, Oxford University, and Seventh Generation Corp.

Role of the Program Officer

The role of the Program Officer is to deliver and evaluate YouthBank programming, paying particular attention to the needs of the youth. The Program Officer is expected to be or will have to be multidisciplinary in approach and able/willing to act as business manager/executive, social worker, teacher and mentor.

Reporting

This position reports directly to the Board of YouthBank Nigeria as well as the International Board of Directors.

Responsibilities

1.) To supervise and mentor 8-10 YouthBank fellows (aged 15-25)

  • Coordinate fellow recruitment with partner nonprofits
  • Organize training/orientation sessions
  • Conduct weekly evaluations of YouthBank fellows
  • Receive feedback from YouthBank fellows and document impact for the Board
  • Supervise YouthBank fellows and encourage them to take leadership roles in YouthBank
  • Administer payment of stipends to YouthBank fellows

2.) To manage and monitor the core YouthBank business

  • Review transactions daily and accurately enter results into financial records
  • Take weekly inventory and manage level of supplies/equipment
  • Report regularly to both the local and International financial team and alert team to issues as they arise
  • Pay any bills and ensure the proper maintenance and upkeep of the YouthBank Center
  • Enforce YouthBank procedures and accounting rules at the YouthBank Center

Qualifications

  • Experience working with, counseling and motivating youth in Lagos (ages 15-25)
  • Must be computer literate, familiar with MS Word , MS Excel, emailing, and calculating/budgeting
  • Experience effectively managing money in a business, formal or informal
  • Dedication to mission and core values of YouthBank; willingness to put in extra effort and time to ensure YouthBank succeeds as a start-up
  • Demonstrate leadership skills
  • Ability to work with limited supervision and tight deadlines Excellent team building skills

Typical Workweek

~ 35-40 hours per week; flexibility required (e.g., for evening and weekend work)

Salary
